Special Episode: The Arts

This special episode of Our Times, focused on the Arts was created by Zoe Zekos.

In the first story of this special episode of Our Times, Veronica Barron, Director of the shadow puppet show, Magic Pearl, gives viewers a glimpse into her artistic process. The second segment is inspired by the “city symphony” documentary style of the 1920s and 30s. This version highlights the diverse architecture of Boston ranging from the Colonial style of Beacon Hill to Art Deco structures in the Financial District to one of the most modern buildings in the city, located right on BU’s campus. The final story features Bil Thibodeau, Artistic Director of Gateway Arts, and the professional artists he works with. Gateway Arts, located in Brookline, supports careers in art for adults with disabilities. Thibodeau discusses the origin of the studio and the community it provides.

Zoe Zekos is a 2023 graduate of Boston University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and a minor in Art History. As a follow-up to her piece on the Museum of Bad Art (Episode One), Zekos continued her exploration of the arts in Boston and Brookline through the completion of this semester-long professional project. Zekos was the director, producer, videographer, and editor for this Our Times special episode.
